Our Pro-Life Beliefs
Statement of Pro-Life Beliefs
Every human being, from conception to death is created in the image of God, and therefore has the right to life. Those who take the lives of unborn children through abortion, sin against God, and will have to give account of this to Him.
Abortion sheds the blood of innocent, unborn children and brings the judgment of God upon our land. Even in cases of incest or rape, the life of the child should be spared. We would not kill the rapist (guilty party) so why should the innocent child be put to death?
A Scriptural View of Abortion
A lot can be said about the scriptural view of what is called “abortion.” Here is a summary on the value of human life, and why abortion is sin:
*Every person is created in the image of God. (Gen. 1:26-27) We are not a random group of chemicals.
*Only God has the authority to take life. “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made He man” (Gen. 9:6).
*It is the opposite of what scripture commands. Proverbs 24:11-12 says, “If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold we knew it not; doth not He that pondereth the heart consider it? And He that keepeth thy soul, doth He not know it? And shall He not render to every man according to his works?”
*Children are a gift from the Lord (Ps. 127:3) - even to an unwed mother.
*Personhood begins at conception. (Ps. 139:13-16) Children in the womb are not as Planned Parenthood would have their clients believe to be just a blob of tissue.
Modern embryology exploded such lies years ago.
*Christ elevated the status of children (Lk. 18:15-16). The Greek word translated “infant” is the word “brephos.” The same word is translated as “baby” when “the baby leaped in her womb” in Luke 1:41, and also to describe the Lord Jesus as “a baby wrapped in clothes lying in a manger” (Luke 2:12).
*Under penalty of death, the children of Israel were specifically commanded not to let their child pass through the fire to Molech (i.e., burned alive) (Lev. 20: 1-3).
*The scriptures clearly say “Thou shall not kill” (Ex. 20:13)
Additionally, pro-life ministries can be very scriptural and honorable. However, pro-life ministries are only a part of the entire range of ministries that God has called his people to e.g. preaching the gospel, discipling, missionary work, etc. and are not an end in themselves. Our identities are to be based first on who we are as Christians, and not as pro-lifers. Those who would make their own pro-life ministry an idol are in error.
